It was a historic adventure: In 2005, 36 people sailed from Bremerhaven to New York City on a historic three-master. During the crossing, conditions were similar to those in 1855: unusual meals, no electricity, no fresh water. It was an experience that would have a profound effect on the lives of the voyagers.
After a stormy 70-day voyage, the proud ship, the Fridtjof Nansen, known as the Bremen, finally arrived in Manhattan Bay under full sail, passing the Statue of Liberty and anchoring in front of the glass and steel skyline. The men, women and children stepped ashore, uncertain and as if out of time.
